PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Graphite developer Kibaran Resources has moved a step closer to the development of its Epanko graphite project, in Tanzania, with the company announcing on Tuesday that it had received an environmental permit from the office of the Vice President.

The certificate was a prerequisite for the application of a mining licence for the Epanko project.

“Obtaining the environmental certificate represents a significant milestone in terms of government permitting for the Epanko project and significantly de-risks project development,” said Kibaran executive director Grant Pierce.

A bankable feasibility study on the Epanko project was expected before the end of June, with the project expected to produce at a rate of around 40 000 t/y.

Pierce told shareholders on Tuesday that the company was in the final stages of preparing its mining licence application, the granting of which remained a major milestone in terms of government permitting.
