A committee appointed by platinum group metals (PGMs) and chrome miner Eastern Platinum (Eastplats) to investigate allegations made by a whistleblower is well underway, the TSX- and JSE-listed company reports.

Eastplats in April appointed the committee, comprising independent directors George Graham Dorin and Xin (Alex) Guan, to investigate allegations, including about undisclosed related party transactions for the sale of chrome concentrate at discounted prices.

The committee has obtained information and documents from Eastplats' management and conducted interviews with the company's CEO and CFO. It is also engaging an e-discovery specialist to conduct a document discovery of the company’s servers to ensure the committee is able to review all relevant documents.

Once this process is in place, the committee will assess its next steps, Eastplats says.

Eastplats owns, directly and indirectly, a number of PGM and chrome assets on the western and eastern limbs of the Bushveld Complex, in South Africa.

Operations at the Crocodile River mine currently include re-mining and processing the tailings resource to produce PGM and chrome concentrates from the Barplats Zandfontein tailings dam.
