JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly) – London-listed Ironveld on Thursday said the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) had given Hacra Mining and Exploration Company, which is 71% owned by Sylvania Platinum, confirmation that its application for a mining right on the Harriets Wish, Cracouw and Aurora farms, in Limpopo, had been accepted.

Hacra submitted the application in April.

Ironveld indicated that the next steps towards the granting of the mining right would be the submission of an environmental-management programme later this year and holding various public participation meetings, which were required by the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act.

A decision by the DMR regarding Hacra’s mining right application was expected during the course of next year.

"The acceptance of the mining right application by the DMR is a major step towards the granting of the mining right and another key milestone for Ironveld in the development of our pig iron project," Ironveld CEO Peter Cox said.
