Demag – a Terex brand

Demag – a Terex brand – is an internationally recognised specialist in the design and manufacture of cranes, hoists, drives and handling technology for every application. The company’s offering also includes refurbishments, modernisations, spare part sales and after-sales service throughout sub-Saharan Africa.

Founded in Germany in 1819 and established in South Africa in 1957, the global group is now controlled by US-based Terex Corporation.

In South Africa, Demag has a turnover of over R300-million and boasts an order book of about R98-million.

The company was recently awarded contracts to supply automated handling systems to the Government Printing Works, desludging bridges to Veolia Water for Rand Water and an automated paper reel handling warehouse system to Mpact’s Felixton mill. In Zambia, Demag was awarded a contract to supply tank house cranes to the Mopani copper mine.

The crane manufacturer will showcase its innovative new V-Type girder crane at Electra Mining Africa 2016. The overhead travelling crane, which was launched in South Africa in March, has won many technological innovation awards since its initial launch to the European and North American markets in late 2014. The V-Type girder crane is the latest innovation in overhead crane design and offers major benefits when compared with a conventional box-type girder crane.

Demag operates from a 70 000 m2 property in Atlas road, Boksburg, Gauteng, and from five other locations throughout South Africa, providing employment to 189 people.

Demag operates with the highest-quality standards and is ISO 9001- and ISO 3834-certified and also has ISO 14001 and ISO 18001 ratings.
