JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Drilling at the historic Tisová copper mine in the Czech Republic is set to start in early September, explorer Auroch reported on Monday.
An initial 12-hole drilling programme has been approved for the project, which hosts a volcanogenic massive sulphide-rich system previously mined for copper.
CEO Andrew Tunks said Auroch believed the deposit held “enormous potential”.
“My recent trip to site and our ongoing work on historic plans and drilling indicate the enormous tonnage potential of this orebody, which extends over 800 m of strike over 700 m down dip, is up to 80 m thick and is open in all directions,” he said in a statement.
Recent sampling has highlighted the presence of previously unrecognised cobalt, gold and silver. Grades of up to 0.68% cobalt, 3.5% copper and 3.7 g/t silver were returned.
ASX-listed Auroch announced early last month that it had secured an option agreement to acquire 100% of the Tisová mine, which between 1959 and 1973 produced 560 000 t of ore containing 0.68% copper.
