PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Severe weather conditions associated with Cyclone Debbie have seen coal production at the Curragh mine, in Queensland, decline during the three months ended June.
ASX-listed Wesfarmers on Tuesday reported that coal production for the quarter under review was down 3.2% on the previous quarter, to just over three-million tonnes, with metallurgical coal making up 2.04-million tonnes, down 10.1% on the previous quarter, and steaming coal production down 14.4% to 1.01-million tonnes.
For the 12 months ended June, metallurgical coal production increased by 12.5% to 8.2-million tonnes, while steaming coal production was up 16.5%, to 3.8-million tonnes.
At the Bengalla mine, in New South Wales, Wesfarmers produced 959 000 t of coal during the quarter ended June, which was up 25.5% on the previous quarter as the operation progressed through a productive area of the mine sequence.
For the full year, Wesfarmer’s share of coal production increased by 1.6%, to 3.40-million tonnes.
