JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Operations at Eastern Platinum’s (Eastplats’) Crocodile River mine have been suspended following a fatal accident on Tuesday.

Eastplats president and CEO Ian Rozier said mining operations at the Zandfontein section of the mine were suspended after shift supervisor Allan Swartz was fatally injured after falling down an empty ore pass.

A Section 54 order was issued by the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) pending a full investigation by the DMR Inspector of Mines.

“This is terrible news for the family affected. Management has made health and safety a key priority at Crocodile River and this incident is being investigated thoroughly,” stated Rozier.
