Patrice Motsepe, above, last week called on all South Africans, irrespective of political persuasion, to close ranks around economic growth. The African Rainbow Minerals executive chairperson urged that, in cases where extreme politics stood in the way of economic wellbeing, they should be “thrown into the deepest sea”. The Soweto-born founder of the iron-ore, coal, platinum, copper, manganese, nickel and gold group rejected the extreme right-wing and left-wing political model being rolled out so divisively in the run-up to the US Presidential election and urged that a strong centre be the order of the day in South Africa, so that crucial economic sustenance could be delivered without hindrance.
