Geological software developers Aranz Geo states that, in line with celebrating ten years of developing the Leapfrog Geo suite, the company will make its eBook, titled ‘Unearthing three-dimensional implicit modelling’, available at its stall during the 2015 Investing in African Mining Indaba.

Ten years ago, Aranz Geo had a vision for a new approach to traditional geological modelling by using an implicit modelling engine.

“This engine is the foundation for the Leapfrog software, which aims to radically speed up the modelling process for geologists. Today, a decade after its development, the company’s three-dimensional (3D) geological modelling software is an established world leader, with thousands of users in more than 50 countries.” says Aranz Geo CEO Shaun Maloney.

Owing to this, Aranz Geo principal geologist Desmond Subramani notes that the indaba is an ideal platform to celebrate Leapfrog Geo’s success, adding that the company uses the indaba platform as a barometer to determine where the industry is as a whole and attends it to strengthen its existing relationships with other companies.

He adds that the company will attend the indaba for the fourth time this year and this has provided a platform for Aranz Geo to expand its market.

Subramani notes that it released two Leapfrog models in 2014, which will be showcased during the indaba.

“In July last year, we released the largest release to date, Leapfrog Geo 2.0, which includes advanced vein modelling abilities in the industry. With this version, Leapfrog ensured that it fits into the wider company processes and meets reporting requirements, which has the [capability] to create cross sections of any 3D geological model,” says Leapfrog Geo product manager Tim Schurr.

Additionally, in November last year, a second software release was made, Leapfrog Geo 2.1. This is the first of two releases, where Leapfrog has partnered with mining software company Snowden Supervisor.

Schurr indicates that this version enables users to combine the speed and power of the Leapfrog engine for grade interpolation.

Further, Subramani mentions that, to expand its product offering, Aranz Geo launched its Leapfrog Academic Program in September last year to equip students with the skills and knowledge to confidently create and interpret geological models with Leapfrog.

“The Leapfrog Academic Program offers academic institutions and students licences for Leapfrog. Students and teachers can access ongoing support through the Leapfrog academic website,” says Subramani.
