Company Announcement: Steinmetz Gaborone Marathon launches 2013 event in Gaborone, Botswana.

The Steinmetz Gaborone Marathon is launching the country’s largest running for charity event on May 5th 2013. The Steinmetz Gaborone Marathon (SGM) offers a total of four races, 42.2km race, 21 km, 10km race and 4km fun run / walk. All the race routes will start and finish at Grand Palm Hotel & Casino Resort. SGM is inviting some of the best athletes regionally and internationally to run the Marathon, some of whom have participated in the event since inception in 2010, such as Moyo Samukeliso from Zimbabwe. This year, Steinmetz Gaborone Marathon is expected to host around 5,000 participants, compared to 3,100 participants in last year’s race.
Official charities will benefit from the proceeds of the Steinmetz Gaborone Marathon.

Stellan Bengtsson, the Race Manager, commented: “the event is open to everyone, from professionals, sports enthusiasts, children and families. We encouraged everyone to participate in all the pre-race events as part of the training towards the Steinmetz Gaborone Marathon.” Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) President Thari Mooketsi highlighted that BAA thanks organisers of the Steinmetz Gaborone Marathon for their good initiative and BAA will continue to support the event. The pre-marathon events kicked off on the 26th of January with an exciting 4km Fit for Life fun walk whose route was the Grand Palm Nature trail. It will be followed by another 4km fun run event on March 16th, coined the Family Fun Walk.
