COAL COMFORT

A pro-Russian separatist stands guard at a coal mine in the village of Nizhnyaya Krynka, east of Donetsk, in troubled Ukraine. The mine has been restored after being damaged in a skirmish between pro-Russian separatists and Ukraine’s part-volunteer National Guard. Russian State media claim the tortured bodies of four civilians were discovered in the mine, which they allege served as a Ukrainian military base but which the National Guard denies ever controlling.
