TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Cerro Grande Mining has reported that its flagship Pimenton mine, in Chile, remained closed from early this month after a severe snow storm brought 3.14 m of snow.

All personnel had now been evacuated from the mine by PistenBully snowcats. The snow storm was reported to be the worst storm to hit the mine operations since 2005.

The mine shutdown was expected to cause severe financial difficulties for the company and its subsidiary Compania Minera Pimenton. The company was currently reviewing its options, it said.
