PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Iron-ore developer Cape Lambert has lodged the formal mining licence application for its Marampa iron-ore project, in Sierra Leone.

Executive chairperson Tony Sage said on Friday that the grant of the mining licence would be the last key hurdle to progress the Marampa project to eventually become Sierra Leone’s third iron-ore producer.

“Marampa has been demonstrated to be a financially robust project and gaining the necessary governmental approvals will significantly enhance the asset’s appeal to potential investors, in turn, adding significant value for our shareholders.”

A 15-million-tonne-a-year scoping study was completed in late 2012, based on a Joint Ore Reserves Committee-compliant resource of 681-million tonnes, at 28.2% iron, covering four deposits.

Marampa was issued with an environmental licence in April this year, which was the first key step in the permitting process.
