Business organisation Business Unity South Africa (Busa) has appointed Mxolisi Mgojo as its new president, after Bonang Mohale stepped down in August 2023, one year before the end of his term of office.

“Mxolisi has played, and continues to play, a critical role in organised business and his experience, insights and integrity will help Busa continue to be a credible and respected representative of business,” said Busa CEO Cas Coovadia.

Mgojo retired as Exxaro Resources CEO in 2022, after serving in the position since 2016. His previous roles also include Minerals Council South Africa president. He has also spent eight years in the financial sector, Busa said.

“I am humbled by the confidence placed in me by the board and membership of Busa to lead organised business during these difficult and yet exciting times and look forward to working with the board and members,” said Mgojo.

“Mxolisi is currently playing a critical role as one of the CEOs leading the efforts of turning around our transport and logistics system under the auspices of the National Logistics Crisis Committee (NLCC), and in partnership with government. The NLCC is seized with making critical interventions to address some of the serious challenges in the Transport and Logistics sector,” Coovadia said.

“We are happy to welcome Mxolisi to the Busa family. He will serve as president until August 2024, but will be eligible to be reappointed for a further period of three years. We look forward to his leadership and guidance.”
