JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Platinum group metals miner Atlatsa Resources has confirmed that operations at its Bokoni platinum mine, in South Africa’s Bushveld Complex, have been interrupted by community unrest in the area.

Members of the nearby community on Monday blocked the main road leading to the mine with burning tyres and rocks, preventing Atlatsa employees from accessing the mine.

“Bokoni also confirms that there was damage to the timber storage yard and to the network and telephone infrastructure. Bokoni management is working closely with the South African Police Services to ensure safety and security in the region,” the company said in a statement.

It added that no formal demands had been presented to the mine management.
