JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – BHP Billiton health, safety and environment (HSE) and marketing and technology president Dean Dalla Valle will take responsibility for the diversified miner’s potash portfolio from August 1.

In addition to being chief commercial officer in charge of potash, he would retain responsibility for HSE, marketing, supply and information technology.

Dalla Valle’s new role would allow Tim Cutt, who headed up the petroleum and potash businesses, to concentrate exclusively on growing the value of the petroleum business as from July 1.

“These portfolio changes recognise the depth of skill and ongoing contribution of both Dean and Tim to BHP Billiton,” commented BHP CEO Andrew Mackenzie.

Meanwhile, BHP human resources president Athalie Williams would become chief people officer as from July 1, while the company’s corporate affairs president Tony Cudmore would become chief public affairs officer.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our group management committee members for their ongoing leadership and contribution to BHP Billiton,” said Mackenzie.
