PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Beacon Minerals has signed a letter of intent (LoI) with gold miner Northern Star Resources to process high-grade refractory ore at the Kanowna Belle processing facility, in Western Australia.

Under the LoI, Northern Star would process some 11 500 t of refractory gold ore at its Kanowna Belle facility, with crushing and sampling of the ore starting in early February.

“The execution of the LoI is another important step for the Halleys East project,” said Beacon MD Graham McGarry.

Mining at the Halleys East operation was completed in May of last year, after a year of operation. At the end of the operation line, Beacon’s broken ore stocks totalled some 25 295 t, at an average head grade of 11.02 g/t gold, for an estimated net recovery of 7 619 oz of gold.

Some 16 690 t of this ore stock was milled through a milling campaign at the FMR Investments Greenfields custom mill in 2015.

“Rehabilitation at Halleys East is essentially completed and will now be managed annually in accordance with the mine closure plan,” said McGarry.
