TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – The world’s largest gold producer Barrick Gold has appointed executive VP for business performance Catherine Raw as its new CFO, effective from April 26.

Raw would replace current senior executive VP and CFO Shaun Usmar, who had resigned from Barrick to lead a new venture in Toronto backed by Elliott Management, which was focused on royalty, streaming and other forms of investments in the mining industry.

Raw would succeed Usmar immediately following the company’s annual meeting of shareholders on April 26, with Usmar being available in an advisory capacity for the next two months to support a seamless transition.

Toronto-based Barrick billed Raw as the “ideal successor” for the position, as before joining Barrick in May 2015, he was the co-manager of BlackRock’s flagship mining funds, where she spent years leading in-depth financial analysis and evaluation of every major mining company in the world.

Raw, a chartered financial analyst, also held a Master’s degree in Natural Sciences, with first-class honours from Downing College, University of Cambridge, and a Master of Science in Mineral Project Appraisal from Imperial College London.
