JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – With the electrical and instrumentation work at the Letlhakane mine tailings resource treatment plant under way, Aveng Grinaker-LTA and Aveng Botswana were working to upskill local labour.

During the nine-month contract at the Debswana Diamonds-owned mine, in Botswana, the company would provide 174 employment opportunities for electricians, boilermakers and labourers, to local community members.

The group’s mechanical and electrical engineering unit aimed to complete the supply and installation of electrical and instrumentation equipment by December.

“Aveng Grinaker-LTA through various skills development programmes is upskilling local labour and will leave a legacy behind in the local community in the form of improved skills and work experience,” said Aveng Grinaker-LTA operations manager Shawn Shanahan.

The project formed part of Aveng Grinaker-LTA’s strategy to grow the business and secure more projects across Africa over the next few years.
