PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The Queensland Resources Council (QRC) on Wednesday welcomed the federal government’s approval of the Arrow Bowen pipeline’s environmental-impact assessment.
The proposed Arrow Bowen pipeline is a buried high-pressure steel pipeline to transport coal seam gas (CSG) from the Bowen basin to a gas hub 22 km west of Gladstone, where it will join the proposed Arrow Surat pipeline.
Arrow CEO Andrew Faulkner said the environmental approval followed Queensland government’s September approval of an environmental-impact statement (EIS) for Arrow's Bowen basin gas field development and the company's announcement of front-end engineering design (FEED) for the development of the Bowen gas project.
The Queensland government approved the pipeline EIS in March last year.
“The proposed pipeline is a key piece of infrastructure in our plans to bring to market our significant gas reserves in the Bowen basin,” Faulkner said.
QRC CEO Michael Roche on Wednesday congratulated Arrow Energy on receiving federal government environmental approval for its Bowen pipeline, saying the development of the Bowen basin gas reserves would create more than 1 500 construction jobs and 700 permanent jobs for Queenslanders.
“This is welcome news for the people of Central Queensland who have felt the impact of job losses in the coal sector.
“The 500-km-long pipeline is a fundamental part of the project, which will see coal seam gas transported from Arrow Energy’s Bowen basin gas fields to Gladstone, to supply local and export markets,” Roche said.
The Arrow Energy Bowen gas project involves developing Arrow’s tenements near its existing gas fields with staged expansion of approximately 4 000 gas wells, and gas infrastructure, in an 8 000 km2 area.
