JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner AngloGold Ashanti on Wednesday reported a fatality at its Moab Khotsong mine, near Orkney, in the Free State.

A scraper winch operator was fatally injured in a winch incident at the mine, 170 km from Johannesburg, on Tuesday.

While the company had halted the use of the scraper and mono-winches, all other mining activities continued.

An in-loco inspection had been undertaken following a notification of the accident to the Department of Mineral Resources.
