JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – A rock-drill operator was killed in a fall-of-ground incident at AngloGold Ashanti’s Kopanang mine, near Orkney, in the Free State, on Tuesday.
The Department of Mineral Resources had been notified and an in loco inspection would be conducted.
In the meantime, management had suspended activities at the section where the incident occurred.
“AngloGold Ashanti would like to express its sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased. Management is working with the employee’s family to assist them through this difficult time,” the gold miner said.
