JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – AngloGold Ashanti has appointed Chris Sheppard as successor to COO for South Africa Mike O’Hare, who would take early retirement during 2015.

Sheppard, a former Murray & Roberts Cementation MD and a mining engineer, would join AngloGold’s executive committee on June 1, with O’Hare, who was with the company for nearly 40 years, assisting with a seamless handover.

“Chris has a unique set of skills that will help us to continue enhancing safety, driving business improvement, tighter cost control and the technological development that Mike has championed,” AngloGold CEO Srinivasan Venkatakrishnan said in a statement on Tuesday.

Sheppard was previously head of both mining and technical services at Lonmin and Anglo American Platinum.
