PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Diversified miner Anglo American on Monday confirmed that an accident at its Dawson coal mine, in central Queensland, had claimed the life of a contractor.
Another person was injured and has been airlifted to hospital.
The miner has suspended operations at the mine. The Queensland Mines Inspectorate would conduct an investigation into how the incident occurred. Inspectors from the workers union CFMEU were also expected on site.
The union pointed out on Monday that this was the third fatal accident at an Anglo American coal mine in the past 12 months.
