Amplats expects double-digit rise in FY17 earnings

JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Cost reductions and an improved operational performance are expected to bolster earnings for the year ended December 31, by at least 20%, Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) said on Friday.

In an update to shareholders, the company said headline earnings and headline earnings a share for 2017 would be R373-million and 143c apiece higher than the respective R1.8-billion and 713c reported in 2016.

Basic earnings and basic earnings a share are anticipated to be R126-million and 48c apiece higher than the comparative period’s R632-million and 241c respectively.

Amplats will release the results for the year under review on February 19.
