PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Metals developer Alara Resources has been granted a mining licence for its Al Hadeetha copper project, in Oman.

CEO Justin Richard said on Tuesday that the granting of a mining licence was a major milestone for the copper project, and for future development of the copper sector in Oman.

“With global demand for copper rising and further supply deficits expected to widen in the coming years, it’s the right time to be developing a new copper mine.”

Alara and its joint venture partners have submitted a total of five mining licence applications in Oman, with three pertaining to the Al Hadeetha copper project, and two more to the Daris copper project.

The Al Hadeetha project included the construction of a one-million-tonne-a-year copper concentration plant, with an initial ten-year mine life.
