PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner St Barbara has reported a fatality at its Simberi operations, in Papua New Guinea.

The miner said on Friday that a local contractor was fatally injured during tree clearing activities on site.

Operations at Simberi were paused to conduct a site-wide safety briefing, and the miner said on Friday that an investigation into the incident had been launched.

Simberi was expected to produce between 70 000 oz and 80 000 oz of gold during the full year, with production expected to increase to a rate of 100 000 oz/y by the June quarter.
