122.52 ct blue diamond recovered at Cullinan

JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – London-listed Petra Diamonds has recovered an exceptional 122.52 ct blue diamond at its Cullinan mine, in Gauteng.

The stone would require further analysis to assess its potential value and upon completion of this process, Petra would be able to evaluate the stone’s optimal route to market, the company said on Friday.

The diamond would, therefore, not be sold before the end of the Petra’s current financial year on June 30.

“The rarity of a blue diamond of this magnitude sets it apart as a truly significant find. Cullinan is known as the world’s most important source of blue diamonds and since Petra acquired the mine in 2008, it has continued to produce a number of exceptional blues,” the company pointed out.
