Project management ser- vices company Tenova Mining & Minerals announced in February that group subsidiary Tenova Delkor UK will be relocating its business to Tenova Takraf’s global headquarters in Leipzig, Germany.

From June 1, Tenova Delkor’s business activities will be con- ducted and managed out of Leipzig.

The relocation will benefit clients and stakeholders as it will give clients direct access to the larger and broader market offering and capabilities of Tenova Takraf in terms of engineering, manufacturing, project execution and aftermarket support. It also gives clients direct access to Tenova Takraf’s manufacturing facility in Lauchhammer, Germany.

As a leading specialist and supplier in its field and with a recognised reputation spanning more than four decades in terms of its capability to supply clients with quality engineered solutions, the Tenova Delkor brand will con- tinue to be the foundation of its market offering and services.

Meanwhile, Tenova Mining & Minerals also announced in February that its electric furnaces and associated plant equipment specialist division, Tenova Pyromet, had been awarded a contract by Italian diversified metals pro- ducer Metalleghe for equipment design, supply and supervision for a new plant being built in the city of Mrkonjic, in the Republic of Srpska – one of the two political entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The project, which is currently under way, is expected to make Metalleghe the second-largest company in Bosnia.

The two-year contract is part of Metalleghe’s expansion of its sili- con metal production facilities, which have been established through the development of a new smelter complex within a few kilometres of the existing Bosnian-Herzegovinian Silicon Industries (BSI) operation. BSI is the silicon metal and silica fume production arm of the international Metalleghe Group.

An important Tenova Pyromet technology being provided is the automation and control systems, which will allow interfacing between the smelter furnace, the raw materials handling system and the off-gas cleaning plant. Tenova Pyromet will provide process guarantees for the smelting furnace’s production rate and hot metal power consumption for every silicon metal unit produced.

Local Developments

Tenova Mining & Minerals announced in December that its South African black-empowered operating arm, Tenova Mining & Minerals South Africa, had been awarded a significant materials handling contract by coal miner Sasol Mining.

The contract forms part of Sasol Mining’s Tweedraai expansion project in Secunda, South Africa, which will see part of the Syferfontein mine being replaced.

This project will ensure that Sasol has modern replacement operations for some of Sasol’s long-standing, but depleting, mines. The project includes the use of enhanced steel structures and designs using advanced technologies, which have been developed in-house over the last decade by Tenova Mining & Minerals South Africa’s trading division, Tenova Takraf Africa. The company is a leading openpit mining, underground solutions and bulk materials handling specialist and will design and execute the project.

The new conveyor system includes the design and instal- lation of three conveyors totalling 3 km, which will have the capacity to convey coal at 4 800 t/h. Electrical and instrumentation systems, as well as bulk earthworks and civils foundations for the conveyor system and transfer towers, also form part of the contract.

This contract is the culmination of ongoing engagement between Tenova Mining & Minerals South Africa and Sasol Mining, a subsidiary of international integrated energy and chemicals company Sasol.

Tenova has been involved since the initiation of the proposal phase, with a keen focus on meeting the client’s requirements, while also ensuring a technically and commercially superior bid.

“This major award reinforces and continues our proud and long-standing relationship with Sasol Mining. “We believe that successful execution of the project will create a sound foundation on which Tenova Mining & Minerals can continue to build its relationship with Sasol Mining well into the future,” says Tenova Takraf Africa MD Riccardo Tonini.

Tenova Mining & Minerals is a total integrated solutions provider for the global mining, bulk materials handling and minerals beneficiation and processing sectors, offering innovative technology solutions and full process and commodity knowledge across the mining industry value chain.
