JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Dual-listed Sibanye has appointed Chris Bateman its US region’s executive VP, the gold and platinum miner said on Monday.

In addition to heading up the region and leading the team at the Stillwater operations, Bateman will join Sibanye’s executive committee.

Bateman had served as CFO of the Stillwater operation since 2014 and, prior to that, as the CFO at Turquoise Hill. He also worked at Rio Tinto Diamonds and Minerals’ product group, at Rio Tinto Iron and Titanium’s product group and at uranium producer Energy Resources of Australia.

Bateman has served on the boards of Richards Bay Minerals, in South Africa, at Oyu Tolgoi copper mine, in Mongolia, and at QIT Madagascar Minerals, in Madagascar.

Meanwhile, outgoing Stillwater CEO Mick McMullen will transition into the role of technical adviser until end-2018, ensuring management and operational continuity and facilitating the integration of Stillwater into Sibanye.

Sibanye CEO Neal Froneman welcomed Bateman as head of the US region. “Chris’s extensive industry knowledge and experience will strengthen the Sibanye executive team and his collaborative leadership style and broad experience at executive level will facilitate a smooth integration of Stillwater into the broader Sibanye group,” he added.
