Sanbrado permit adjusted for underground mining
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The government of Burkina Faso has updated the mining permit for the Sanbrado gold project, allowing for both underground and openpit mining, and for the use of carbon-in-leach as a processing method.
ASX-listed West African Resources in June this year updated the feasibility study for the Sanbrado project, increasing the project’s production expectations and mine life to an average of 211 000 oz/y of gold over the first five years of operation, with production averaging 133 000 oz/y over the 11-year life-of-mine.
The production estimate was up from the original 2017 feasibility study, which estimated that the Sanbrado project would produce about 93 000 oz/y over a nine-year mine life, producing 150 000 oz/y over the first three years of operation.
West African MD Richard Hyde said on Monday that the updated mining permit was a major permitting milestone for the Sanbrado project.
“We are continuing to drill at M1 South and M5 and will release updated resource estimates and a scoping study investigating M5 underground potential by the end of the third quarter.
“We expect to appoint a banking syndicate to fund the majority of the project capital requirement by the end of the fourth quarter of 2018,” he added.
Meanwhile, early construction works have started at Sanbrado, with the excavation of a water storage pit nearing completion. Earth works and services design for the initial construction camp is also under way.
