SA engineering company tackles multimillion dollar Zimbabwe project
A team of technicians, artisans and engineers from heavy engineering services provider Baldmin Projects is currently on site at gold producer Metallon Gold Mines’ Mazowe mine, in Zimbabwe, erecting structures, for the installation and commissioning of the mine’s flotation and leach plant scheduled for December.
Baldmin was awarded the contract for the design and manufacturing of the $10-million, 60 000 t/m plant at the Mazowe mine in 2014.
The plant will consist of flotation, leach, feed preparation/ milling and thickener sections as well as a substation, which will supply power to the plant. A Fraser Alexander pump station for hydro sluicing is also expected to be part of the plant, Baldmin says.
Civil works at Mazowe mine are 90% complete and site installations have started. A team of technicians, artisans and engineers led by Baldmin projects director Costar Takawira are on site erecting structures and have also designed and installed the plant.
The engineering services company has also confirmed it has already designed and is currently manufacturing four six- foot regrind ball mills for the plant.
Baldwin CEO Massimo Giannoccaro runs the engineering division and oversees the project team responsible for the project and ensuring clients expectations are achieved on time.
“Our endeavour is to achieve a high level of locally manufactured equipment, instead of seeking offshore sources of equipment and cheaper prices,” says Giannoccaro.
