JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Russian diamond major Alrosa said on Thursday that it would reopen its trade office in New York in late 2017 or early 2018.

Alrosa president Sergey Ivanov, who met with representatives of the US diamond industry this week, said in a statement that Alrosa was interested in trading in rough and polished diamonds in the US.

Across USA stopped operating last year, owing to “organisational reasons”. The company said a number of candidates were under consideration to head Across USA.

The US is the world's largest market for diamond jewellery.
