JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Toronto-listed Namibia Rare Earths has appointed former Mobil Corporation director Richard Surratt as VP of corporate development and strategic initiatives.

Surratt has held several senior management positions with various public and private companies over the last 25 years, after having received an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, in California, an MS in Fluid Mechanics and Thermal Sciences from The George Washington University, in Washington DC, and a BS in Marine Engineering Systems from the US Merchant Marine Academy, in New York.

Namibia Rare Earths CEO Gerald McConnell said the company was delighted to have Surratt join its senior management team.

“With the recent release of the positive preliminary economic assessment for the Lofdal rare-earth project, in Namibia, we are now focused on exploring all options for moving this project forward.

“Richard's business development and corporate finance expertise will be of great assistance as we seek out qualified strategic partners to participate with the company in the development of this asset,” he commented.

Namibia Rare Earths was currently developing a portfolio of mineral exploration projects in Namibia and was focused on the accelerated development of the Lofdal project, in north-western Namibia.
