East Rand-based engineering company JA Engineering Works hosted a ribbon-cutting cere-mony at Electra Mining Africa 2016, held earlier this month, to launch its first Wildcat JAE42 continuous miner.

The in-house-designed continuous miner is targeted at South African coal mines.

In attendance at the ribbon-cutting ceremony was Department of Trade and Industry primary minerals chief director Tapiwa Samanga, who highlighted the importance of local investment and technology innovation in South Africa to acheive sustainable development.

JA Engineering Works CEO Danie van Wyk says the Wildcat JAE42 continuous miner was developed in response to local collieries’ demand for a high-productivity cutting solution.

The Wildcat JAE42 is 90% locally manufactured and procured, creating sustainable investment in South Africa; it aims to create a safer, more productive mining environment.
