PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Perth-based Gulf Manganese Corporation has received approval from the Governor of East Nusa Tenggara to construct a manganese smelting hub in the Bolok Industrial Estate, in Indonesia.

The Bolok Industrial Estate was the original site selected for the construction of the Kupang smelting hub project, and Gulf on Monday told shareholders that the company was pleased to start preparatory site work in order to fast-track the development of the Kupang facility in the coming months.

“We are very pleased to have secured approval for the development of the Kupang smelting hub, allowing the company to immediately start site works in preparation for construction,” said Gulf MD Hamish Bohannan.

Gulf is targeting the production of a premium quality 78% ferromanganese alloy from Indonesian high-grade low impurity manganese ore.

No further approvals were required to allow Gulf to start the Kupang smelting hub, and the company said on Monday that it would now immediately undertake detailed site surveying, in conjunction with required site clearing and civil works. Once the site topography has been confirmed, the company will finalise and adjust all site plans prior to the start of construction.
