Kymeta Corp., a leading provider of the world's first electronically-steered, flat-panel satellite terminal for high-throughput, mobile communications, is looking to expand its international sales into Africa and has elected to partner with engineering powerhouse ELB Engineering Services (Pty) Ltd (ELB) to deliver on this strategic objective.

The sale and distribution of the Kymeta™ KyWay™ u7 terminal devices in South Africa required type approval by the country’s Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) which was granted in November, four months after the partnership between ELB Engineering Services and Kymeta was formally established.

ICASA regulates telecommunications, broadcasting and postal services in South Africa. Among its responsibilities, the authority issues licenses to carriers and broadcasters, certifies communications equipment and manages the effective use of radio frequency spectrum.

Only South Africa-based companies/entities can be registered as primary holders of ICASA’s type approval certificates.

“There is tremendous market demand for high-throughput, mobile communications in South Africa and Africa which can be deployed in any moving vehicle including cars, trains, buses, trucks, boats, heavy-duty industrial equipment and much more,” says Caroline Petrich, ELB Intelligent Solutions Business Development Manager.

“Achieving type approval for Kymeta positions ELB to take advantage of these opportunities, and provide reliable, and agile communications which is key to enabling digital technologies. We are now able to cost effectively compensate for poor and inconsistent cell phone and wired coverage which is often not available in rural areas,” Petrich continues.

ELB can now offer high-throughput antennas and metamaterials-based, flat panel antennas, which provide multi-cast capabilities without ever slowing down or maxing-out on capacity – fully meeting the demands of consumers and industries alike, no matter where they are located in the world.

ELB Engineering Services is an internationally recognised know-how solutions provider to the mining, power, port, construction and industrial sectors. This is achieved through ELB generated innovation, supply of equipment and technology from our world class partners, in-house developed expertise and integration of the services and products from the ELB Group of companies.
