Name: Eagle mine.

Location: The Eagle mine is located in the upper peninsula of Michigan, in the US.

Controlling Company: Lundin Mining.

Brief Description: Eagle mine is an estimated 2 000 t/d underground nickel/copper mine.

Ramp access to the Eagle East orebody is under way.

Brief History: The Eagle deposit was first drilled by Rio Tinto in 2002. An initial miner resources was estimated in early 2014. Construction of the mine started in 2010. Lundin Mining acquired the Eagle project from Rio Tinto in 2013 and commercial production of nickel and copper concentrates started in November 2014.

Products: Copper/nickel.

Geology/Mineralisation: Eagle and Eagle East are part of the same ultramafic intrusive system that hosts high-grade primary magmatic nickel/copper sulphide mineralisation. Mineralisation styles are similar at Eagle and Eagle East, consisting of intrusions of mineralised peridotite, with concentrations of sulphide mineralisation mostly within the intrusion, resulting in the accumulation of semimassive and a central zone of massive sulphide.

Reserves: Total mineral reserves as at June 30, 2018, were estimated at 4.09-million tonnes grading 2.3% copper, 0.3 g/t gold, 4 g/t silver and 0.1% cobalt.

Resources: Total measured resources as at June 30, 2018, were estimated at 1.87-million tonnes grading 2.4% copper, 0.3 g/t gold, 2.6% nickel and 0.1% cobalt. Total indicated resources were estimated at 820 000 t grading 1.8% copper, 0.2 g/t gold, 2.4% nickel and 0.1% cobalt. Inferred resources were estimated at 23 000 t grading 0.9% copper, 0.1 g/t gold and 1% nickel.

Total indicated mineral resources for Eagle East were estimated at 1.29-million tonnes grading 4.2% copper, 0.5 g/t gold, 15 g/t silver, 5.2% nickel and 0.1% cobalt. Inferred mineral resources were estimated 290 000 t grading 1.4% copper, 0.2 g/t gold, 6 g/t silver and 1.7% nickel.

Mining Method: Underground, using transverse bench-and-fill stoping.

Major Infrastructure and Equipment: The Eagle mine area is served by an extensive network of paved roads, rail service, excellent telecommunications facilities, national grid electricity and an ample supply of water. Surface and underground infrastructure includes:

• a treated water infiltration system,

• a power house,

• a supply storage facility,

• a water treatment plant,

• a truck wash,

• a mine services building,

• mine dry facilities (expanded for the Eagle East development crews),

• a workshop,

• contact water basins,

• noncontact water infiltration basins,

• a coarse-ore storage area,

• a temporary development rock storage area,

• crushed aggregate storage,

• a concrete backfill batch plant,

• a mine portal connected by decline and levels to the eagle deposit,

• a mine air heater and fresh air intake fan,

• a surface raise site with exhaust fans, and

• a mine security gatehouse.

There is no additional infrastructure required for the Eagle East deposit ,as the existing eagle mine infrastructure will be used for the Eagle East project.

Prospects: Ramp access to Eagle East is being developed, with mine services and infrastructure being extended from the bottom of the Eagle mine. Eagle East will require no new surface infrastructure and is expected to use the same transverse bench-and-fill stoping mining method and basic stope dimensions as Eagle.
