The year of 2017 is a landmark year for South Africa’s most experienced used equipment company, CTC Plant Company (Pty) Ltd, based at Airport Industria, Cape Town, conveniently located right next to the Airport and close to main access highways.

This year marks 25 years since Colin McOwen started trading in used equipment in Cape Town, after laying his foundations solidly in the yellow metal business first with the Hitachi/ Michigan dealer Premier Metal and then Bell Equipment. From this hands-on background, vision, integrity and sound business practice, CTC Plant Company has grown to be the well respected and successful company that it is today.

There are many companies trading in used equipment both large and small, but none have the broad range of experience and activity offered by CTC Plant Company, having broadened its footprint into many related fields thus offering much more than just used equipment for sale.

Very early on the need for a well-appointed and properly staffed workshop was identified to the extent that CTC Plant Company now offers one of the best equipped workshops in the Western Cape together with an engineering capability second to none, being contracted for work by the major OE earthmoving supply companies. The workshop has the capability to totally strip a machine, sandblast and rebuild from scratch to virtually new standard. The engineering shop can manufacture or rebuild buckets large and small, repair or manufacture excavator booms using state of the art equipment and highly skilled craftsmen. Incorporated into the workshop is a complete engine and transmission rebuild centre, an electrical division and a machine shop to repair or manufacture hydraulic cylinders and much more. CTC Plant believes it critical to offer a sound backup for used machines sold.

A natural offshoot to create better customer service is transport of heavy machinery. This too has grown over the years to a formidable fleet of horses and lowbed trailers capable of handling all but the most massive of abnormal loads. Operating throughout South Africa, the CTC Plant Company transport division is able to offer transport with a sound and well managed fleet at competitive rates.

Of course the key element is the sale of quality used earthmoving equipment. To this end the search is always on for quality machines that can be purchased for stock, repaired or rebuilt as required to be able to offer a machine with confidence to the end user in the knowledge that he will receive good value and a reliable machine. Not staffed by hot-shot salesmen but by individuals with decades of experience and knowledge behind them to enable them to best recommend the correct machine for the application. At least 70% of used equipment sales turnover comes from existing customers which offers proof of the customers’ perception of the value and comfort he will receive by dealing with CTC Plant Company. Sometimes they may even pay a little more than the sales lot down the road, but the existing client knows he is getting value and a machine that will earn him money and not stand awaiting an expensive and unforeseen repair.

Again, in the quest to offer a broad based customer service, CTC Plant Company has long been a supplier of hydraulic hammers and attachments. Years of experience and in depth knowledge of the problems relating to hammers, led CTC Plant Company on a quest for a manufacturer of the highest quality and best design features that would address these issues. The result of this search is now CTC Plant Company’s proud association with the TEMPO Attachment range of hammers and attachments. The superior performance of the TEMPO hammer has made this brand the market leader in the Cape in a very short space of time. TEMPO Attachments also offers not only superior design but the widest range of related attachments ranging from grapples, tyres handlers, long and extended booms, quick attachments, screening buckets, drum cutters, augers, rippers and demolition attachments. Quite clearly TEMPO Attachments is the leader in design, reliability and operating costs. In addition CTC Plant Company offers a parts service, especially moils, for most brands of hammers in use currently.

As another addition to the Companies expertise, customers have grown to trust and respect the in depth knowledge and experience offered to back up the CTC Plant Company crushing division. Once again staffed by hands on experts who can talk knowledgeably about crushers and crushing and back this up with on-site commissioning and adjustments of used crushers sold, to optimise performance and output. Well stocked with common wear parts, the crushing division offers equipment and expertise second to none.

In an environment where finance is often a problem for used equipment, CTC Plant Company is well respected by the financial institutions, often assisting in securing finance for a client where it would not normally be available. In house financing can be made available for selected Blue Chip clients.

From start-up 25 years ago, the need for good used parts and affordable new replacement parts was recognised. Popular machines are continuously being bought in and stripped for useable parts and components. Where needed the part or component is refurbished and offered at a fraction of the price of new thus offering a great saving in operating costs. Boasting a large inventory of used parts, this division offers a money saving option to machine owners. In addition to used parts, CTC Plant Company offers a large range of new replacement parts, especially hydraulic pumps, motors, swing motors and the like.

Given the experienced staff, wide range of activities and services offered, CTC Plant Company is clearly in a class of its own and without doubt South Africa’s  MOST EXPERIENCED USED EQUIPMENT DEALER.
