Welding and construction-related equipment and solutions provider Renttech South Africa (SA) displayed its specialised range of equipment and consumables at this year’s Electra Mining Africa (EMA) exhibition, hosted last month at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg.

Renttech SA, which sells and rents welding, power generation, lifting and rigging, and construction-related equipment to the Southern African market, hosted two stands and a mobile training welding unit at EMA to showcase the latest equipment and technology available on the market.

Product Offering
Among the rental and sales products that Renttech SA showcased at the exhibition were the company’s lifting and rigging products and the Harris Metalworker gas-cutting and welding range.

This range, exclusive to Renttech SA, includes regulators, flashback arrestors and cutting torches, as well as gas-saver regulators in the standard 3/8˝ fitting. This complements the traditional Harris range, which is available in a 9/16˝ fitting.

Renttech SA has been distributing Harris Group products since 2012 and is currently the largest distributor of the brand in Southern Africa.

Meanwhile, Renttech SA has also been appointed the South African distributor for Germany-based welding torch manufacturer TBi.

The company’s welding product manager, Johan Bester, tells Mining Weekly that EMA provided the ideal platform to introduce TBi’s product range to the local mining sector. This range offers some of the highest quality torches available in both the hand-held and high-end robotic market. TBi’s torches are a perfect balance between quality and affordability, ensuring consistency in the manufacturing process.

Renttech SA also showcased new Safe Wrench slogging spanners and its new range of Amenabar chain blocks, which have a 6:1 safety factor, overload protection and a three-year warranty. Further, lifting solutions company Kelmeg Lifting Services, which became part of Renttech SA in 2011, showcased its lifting solutions and ISO 9001-approved products.

Renttech SA’s extra heavy-duty R-Spec generator sets were also on display.

“As part of our heavy-duty R-Spec generator sets, we have combined Perkins and Kubota engines with Newage Stamford alternators, which have proven to be an ultrareliable configuration in harsh work environments typically encountered in the mining, marine and construction industries,” says Bester.

He explains that these units are constructed on condition that they are extra heavy-duty, wear-resistant, crash-proof, and painted in accordance with shipping industry requirements. Silent enclosures are manufactured using 2 mm electrolytic plate materials, enabling the company to give a five-year rustproof warranty on this range. “These machines are also designed according to the ISO 8528 specifications, ensuring the durability and reliability of these units,” adds Bester.

He tells Mining Weekly that Renttech SA recently acquired ISO 9001 and 18 001 accreditation, which is an achievement that the company is very proud of.

Renttech SA’s rental division also received its ISO 9001 accreditation in September, placing the company among the few rental companies in the country that have achieved this international accreditation.

“We have the largest fleet of welding equipment for hire in the country, coupled with a vast range of welding consumables and construction equipment to cater for any project, from do-it-yourself projects to the most intricate welding needs of various industrial sectors, such as the petrochemicals, mining and power generation industries,” Bester elaborates.

The company is also focusing on expanding its footprint in Southern Africa.

“In line with this strategy, we recently launched Renttech Namibia, based in Walvis Bay. This enables us to roll out our project and sales expertise to the major projects through local infrastructure in the region. Our customers can enjoy the benefit of procuring locally, as well as having access to local support and infrastructure, which is essential in supporting their projects.

“We are also involved in various projects in Zambia, Mozambique and Botswana. With 19 branches across South Africa, and our most recent branch in Namibia, we are continually strengthening our position to serve our customers and their projects in Southern Africa,” says Bester.

He adds that the Southern African mining industry forms an integral part of the Renttech SA business model. “Every plant, shaft or opencast pit is unique and has its own unique set of challenges. We therefore have to offer tailored solutions to our mining customers to ensure that they have the best equipment and consumables to get the job done safely and within budget.”

Bester assures Mining Weekly that Renttech SA’s equipment and consumables meet all the required health and safety standards for working on mines.

“We deal directly with the original-equipment manufacturers when it comes to our welding equipment and generators. “This ensures that the highest standards are adhered to.”

Renttech SA is part of the diversified group of companies, the Brandcorp Group, and specialises in renting and selling welding and construction equipment, as well as certified welding consumables. The company supplies its products to a range of industries, including the petrochemicals, power generation, construction and civils, fabrication and manufacturing, pulp and paper, offshore oil and gas, shipbuilding and marine maintenance, mining, road and rail equipment, fabrication and maintenance, as well as engineering sectors.
