TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – US coal technology and fine coal recovery firm Coalview this week announced that it had entered the commissioning phase of its Coalview Centralia fine coal recovery (FCR) plant, in Washington state.

The Coral Gable, Florida-based company reported that full commissioning was on schedule, and the plant had seen regular slurry and coal processing since the first week of December.

“As we continue to scale up and fine tune the plant, we expect to demonstrate the plant will meet its production estimates as forecasted. We are pleased with the progress our team has made at Centralia,” Coalview CEO Roger Fish said in a statement on Monday, adding that as the company progressed, it expected to demonstrate that the plant would meet its production estimates as forecast.

The Coalview Centralia plant is a $42-million investment for the company to clean and evacuate more than 18-million tons of slurry material, stored in the impoundment structures at the Centralia coal mine.

After the slurry processing had been completed, the company would undertake a large-scale environmental programme that would allow upland forestry, lowland forest (wetland, riparian, fish and wildlife habitat), pastureland, and industrial land to be established on the post-mining lands.

Coalview said that the Centralia plant was producing fine coal 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and currently employed 23 people.

The processing facility consists of a full rail and truck load-out and a fine-coal recovery plant built to process an estimated 300 000 t/y. The new Coalview facility, in partnership with current producers, produces various sizes of product from fines.
