Local fans and ventilation systems company MechCaL has registered accelerated growth in all areas of the business over the past two years, as a result of the company’s vision to make client delivery a top priority in producing products for South African mining ventilation.

During the two-year period, MechCaL has secured contracts with a number of mining houses, including platinum miners Anglo American Platinum (Amplats), Lonmin and Aquarius Platinum, as well as diversified miners Anglo American and Glencore, and gold miner Sibanye Gold.

“Providing the highest-quality products, backed by performance guarantees and a strong after-sales service culture, has enabled us to prove ourselves in the market over the past two years. We have taken on a number of exciting projects for high-profile South African companies, including a complete retrofit of our fans for Amplats in November 2014 and the delivery of an innovative compressor fan prototype to AngloGold Ashanti earlier this year,” says MechCaL acting MD and spokesperson Professor Jan du Plessis.

Internationally, MechCaL’s products have been commissioned from companies worldwide, with the company’s full product line being rolled out onto the Zambian market a year ago.

“We continually focus on diversifying not only our products but also our markets . . . Until recently, penetrating African markets outside South Africa was challenging, but our fans have been well received in the Zambian market thus far, which is mostly due to the energy savings our products . . . achieve, as power tariffs in that [country] have increased,” Du Plessis notes.
