Lusaka-born Norman Mbazima, 58, will be focusing on the divestment of Anglo American plc’s noncore assets in South Africa from September 1, when he will retain the Anglo deputy chairperson position and pass the Kumba Iron Ore CEO baton on to Themba Mkhwanazi, the CEO of Anglo’s South African coal business. Mbazima, an accountant, will continue as a member of Anglo American’s group management committee, with a brief to deliver value through the divestment of Anglo’s noncore South African businesses, which include Kumba Iron Ore and the company’s coal mining portfolio.
