JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has granted TSX- and NYSE-listed Cameco a ten-year operating licence for its conversion facility in Port Hope, Ontario.

The licence expires on February 28, 2027.

“We are very pleased that the CNSC has accepted our application for a ten-year operating licence. The decision demonstrates the commission’s confidence in our ability to safely produce and protect the environment at this facility both now and far into the future,” Cameco fuel services division VP Dale Clark commented on Tuesday.

The Port Hope facility converts purified uranium trioxide to uranium hexafluoride and uranium dioxide – both intermediate products that are needed in the production of fuel for light water and Candu-type heavy water nuclear reactors.
