Company Announcement - Thanks to its partnership with Connect4Climate, the World Bank Group’s climate change communication initiative and global community, Building Energy will use solar energy to power the Washington National Mall for the first time in its history. Building Energy, an Italian independent power producer from renewable sources, will take part in the Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day, scheduled from April 17th to 19th on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., and significantly contribute to the reduction of the event’s CO2 emissions.

The presence of Building Energy at Earth Day arises from an important partnership with Connect4Climate, the climate change communication initiative and global community launched in 2011 by the World Bank Group and the Italian Ministry for the Environment Land and Sea, to raise global awareness on climate change issues. Building Energy will also solar-power a pavilion on Washington, D.C.’s National Mall for the Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day, a massive event that attracts global policy makers, finance ministers, environment/development NGOs, industry executives, and high-profile artists who will perform for a crowd of tens of thousands of people.

Connect4Climate’s goal is to take on climate change, promote solutions, and empower action. They strive to accomplish this goal by utilizing a global community of more than 200 partners, which include United Nations organizations, international universities, both domestic and international NGOs, civil society, media networks, academic institutions, youth groups, and the private sector. Since its inception, Connect4Climate has used social media to connect their 200+ partners with more than a million fans and followers, all of whom are committed to taking on climate change. From this point, Building Energy will join Connect4Climate in sharing experiences, ideas, resources and planning events aimed at promoting initiatives to raise awareness and expand the debate around climate change.

Among many distinguished Connect4Climate partners, Building Energy is the only Italian company to be selected from the renewable energy sector, thanks to their ability in developing new solutions for the production of energy from renewable sources, a pivotal aspect in countering the harmful effects of climate change and reducing the dependency of fossil fuels. “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Building Energy. The solar-powered pavilion on the National Mall is a powerful example of how you can go green without compromising function, form and beauty” said Lucia Grenna, Connect4Climate Program Director.

Building Energy has been present in the United States since 2013 where it has been developing more than 100 megawatts of solar and wind energy projects including a solar plant recently connected to the grid for Cornell University, an Ivy League University in the United States.

“We are pleased to support the Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day, the most famous world event about environmental and earth protection, and we would like to thank our partner Connect4Climate for giving us this opportunity,” said Andrea Braccialarghe, Building Energy’s Managing Director U.S.A. “Our partnership with Connect4Climate is a tangible demonstration of our commitment to protecting our planet and future generations and we are proud to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Earth Day by powering the Washington National Mall with solar energy and inspiring the change.”
