Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) CEO Chris Griffith, who appeared at last month’s presentation of results in a wheelchair, was injured by a Cape buffalo while on vacation, the company told Reuters. “While he was on holiday, he had an encounter with a buffalo and sustained injuries,” the company said in a statement, giving no further details and not saying where the incident took place. In the 12 months of last year, Amplats showed phenomenal comeback power when it turned the loss of R126-million in 2015 to headline earnings of R1.87-billion for the year ended December 31.
