PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Brockman Mining has reported a 14% increase in the mineral resource of its Sirius deposit, which forms part of the Ophthalmia iron-ore project, in the Pilbara.

The deposit was now estimated to host some 124-million tonnes, grading 60.32% iron, of which 105-million tonnes was classified as indicated.

Along with the mineral resource from the Coordinator and Kalgan Creek deposits, the increased resource estimate for Sirius had increased the greater Ophthalmia project’s resource estimate to 305-million tonnes, grading 59.11% iron. Some 200-million tonnes of this resource was classified as indicated.

Brockman said on Tuesday that the company would now launch a feasibility study for a 15-million-tonne-a-year direct shipping ore operation at Ophthalmia, predicated on the company achieving a rail infrastructure solution for its Marilana project, which is some 80 km from Ophthalmia.

The company would also investigate the potential for a smaller, interim road haulage operation, based on the high-grade mineralisation at Sirius.
