JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed Botswana Diamonds on Tuesday announced that it had started work on the 2.9 km2 PL117 licence area in Orapa, Botswana, with drilling expected to start before the end of the first quarter of this year.

Botswana Diamonds, which held this licence in a joint venture with Russian diamond company Alrosa, stated that its geologists had completed the advance work and procured the necessary equipment, with Alrosa’s geologists expected to join them in the coming weeks.

The work programme to be carried out would include soil sampling, as well as geophysical and geochemical work aimed at defining exact drill targets.

“I am very pleased to be able to announce that the work on the highly prospective PL117 target has started, and look forward to the Alrosa geologists joining the Botswana team shortly. We are very hopeful that we will be able to improve on what was found previously. Indications are good and it is the top target identified by Alrosa,” Botswana Diamonds chairperson John Teeling commented.
