JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Dual-listed Banro has temporarily suspended operations at its Namoya mine, in the Maniema province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

This is owing to road access closure because of activities by local groups against both the local population and against the DRC army, which has resulted in the depletion of essential operating stock at site.

“The company has taken steps to ensure the safety of its personnel and the integrity of the Namoya mine and looks forward to a resolution of the situation,” Banro said in a statement.

Operations at the company's Twangiza mine, in the DRC’s South Kivu province, have not been impacted.
