AUA merges with Minerals Council
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The Australian Uranium Association (AUA) would be incorporated under the banner of the Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) in the hopes of enhancing the uranium sector’s advocacy.
The integration would also reinforce the AUA’s position in the mining industry and build on what has already been achieved under the strong leadership of departing AUA CEO Michael Angwin, the AUA and MCA said in a joint statement.
“We have made significant progress over the last seven years building the industry’s reputation and establishing the uranium sector as a key component of Australia’s resources industry. With these gains in place, the industry has decided to integrate with the MCA to ensure the sector is well positioned for the future,” said AUA chairperson Darryl Cuzzubbo.
“The fact that we are in a position to integrate with the MCA is a tribute to the quality of Angwin’s leadership, insight and energy; and we thank him for his significant contribution.”
MCA chairperson Andrew Michelmore added that the integration would enhance the minerals industry’s representation and strengthen its voice in national policy debates on energy, low emissions technologies, regulatory reform and the economy.
Uranium-specific issues would now be managed by Daniel Zavattiero as a new executive director within the MCA. Zavattiero is a former senior executive with BHP Billiton’s uranium business.
